Many people don’t realise that good skin is so much more than just good genes and overpriced skincare. If you want healthy, glowing skin, the first step is to keep it clean, the right way. Too many people either over, or under-cleanse their skin. Both these mistakes can lead to irritation and sensitivity for the former, and congestion and breakouts for the latter.

I have heard great things about the brand Nu Skin, so when I was asked to review their newly launched smart cleansing device, the LumiSpa iO, I was quite excited. I had been considering investing in a facial cleansing device for the longest time, and interestingly enough, the LumiSpa (the first generation) was on the shortlist, but I had yet to actually make a purchase.

Because I have to try different products for work on an almost daily basis, my skin can veer towards the sensitive side, so I wanted a cleansing device that would not in any way damage my skin’s delicate microbiome. And one thing I know for sure is that the new LumiSpa iO was created after much R&D to not damage or irritate the skin’s microbiome in any way. 

Why I Would Rate This As My First Choice

Unlike traditional cleansing devices and brushes, the LumiSpa has a soft disc-type silicone head that is infused with antimicrobial silver, which makes it far more hygienic and safe for use, especially since silver prevents the growth of bacteria and microbes, so you don’t need to worry if your cleansing device is a breeding ground for bacteria every time you use it on your face.

The Vera app can also send, and save personalised treatments from your phone to your device, or allow you to create your own treatments by adjusting the time and facial areas you wish to focus on. 

The app will also enable you to get personalised product recommendations from Nu Skin’s comprehensive range of skincare products, which I have personally found to be very effective, in fact, their Tri-Phasic White® Mask made our Best Sheet Masks List, and is still one of the best sheet masks I have Tried & Tested to date). These recommendations from Vera, based on your skin condition and type will better help you reach your personal skin care goals. 

So if you find it difficult to navigate through the many products available in the market, or if walking into Sephora leaves you feeling confused and overwhelmed, I would suggest syncing to the app and having at least the skincare aspect of your life made simple.

Vera also enables you to see your skin’s progress over time with its selfie timeline. So you can literally see how much your skin has changed and improved since using your LumiSpa iO. 

Final Thoughts

So would I recommend you invest in the LumiSpa iO? The short answer is yes. 

While I am not ecstatic that I need to use the ageLOC Activating Cleanser with my LumiSpa for optimal results, I don’t hate this part too much either, because the cleanser is really good, and works well on my skin. 

And at the end of the day, it still lasts me several months, and costs far less than a trip to my dermatologist. So for me, I would say yes to investing in this cleansing device. It has the science and research to back it up, and it really has made a big difference in my skin health and condition, I only wish I had invested in it sooner, and saved myself unnecessary skin issues. 

For those of you who think that cleansing devices are just hype, all I can say is that you should try it out for a week, and then see if you still feel that way. For me personally, switching from manually washing my face twice a day, to using the LumiSpa iO, completely improved my skin’s texture, pore size and overall appearance.
